Warcraft the TCG- What’s different about it!
December 30, 2006 at 2:01 am | In ccg&tcg games | Leave a CommentOkay, I went out and bought the game. Actually I went and bought the two starter sets that are specially packaged, along with the Onxyia Raid set.
The first thing that you have to realize is that all games owe a tip of the hat to the daddy of all of tcg games, Magic the Gathering from Wizards of the Coast. That being said….
Coming out of the Heroes of Azeroth special starter sets you get the following……
Either an alliance or a hoard set of cards, along with three over-sized cards, 2 booster packs, and all in a special hard plastic carrying case, which you can use to house your deck and extra cards.
First off, the first big difference between this game and Magic is the idea of using resources or mana. In magic you have cards that you can use to generate ” mana ” in order to play a card(s). The differences become clear right away ….while in magic, you can play a mana card right away, if you don’t have a card in your hand at the time that matches your ” mana source ” such as lets say a swamp card to play, you could be holding onto a card or two at least till you play a mana card that matches said card in your hand so that it can be played.
Not so in WOW. You can use any card in your hand right away as a resource, thus the only thing you have to wait on is having enough resources on the table to play the card in your hand. Have a two drop card that you want to play, you just have to play two resources and your good to go.
And game is a little quicker due to this.
Now the object in Magic is to get your opponent down to a zero life total. It is basically the same in WOW, the only twist is that your hero takes the damage not you, but the damage idea is just the same. Different heroes have different life totals.
Another difference in this game is that damage does not just go away, it stays in the game. So damage can be healed, and which can prolong your game, and your chances of winning.
Your hero also has a special ability that can be played once every game, and depending on what this ability is, can be a game winner for you.
The artwork rivals alot of the great art that I have come to expect on magic cards. And if you play the online game, I am sure you will want to collect your favorite online characters.
Upper Deck in support of WOW has a great website devoted to the game, a community forum, lots of articles about the game, and includes previews of new cards.
Upper Deck is also instituting a Beta Hobby League, starting in January, and WOW has been named new tcg game of the year from Inquest gaming magazine.
I will be staying on top of things happening in this game and I will be doing alot of playing also!
I bought the Warcraft TCG Game!
December 30, 2006 at 1:12 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentWell I did it. In the midst of dealing with the wife being out of work and missing a mortgage payment and just generally having a lousey holiday season, I went out for my weekly dose of comics and wound up getting the World of Warcraft TCG game from Upper Deck Entertainment and Blizzard the folks who produce the online version, which this game is base on. And yes Virginia, this post is late and will be followed up pretty quick with another post about the game.
Warcraft the TCG Game! I just gotta have it!

Nintendo’s New Console Wii! Could this be Nintendo’s 400lb Gorilla?
December 5, 2006 at 8:59 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentI started to do a little research about the newest console from the Nintendo camp, by taking a ride to my local EB store and found out that they new very little about the console other than when it would be released and how much it would cost. To be fair thou, there is another EB store in the local galleria here and if I get the time, I will go there to find out what they might know….but in the meantime I decided to go to the source…
First, don’t expect to find any Bluray stuff here.
Nintendo has again decided to forgo their system being the be all and end all entertainment system. This is just going to be a gaming machine, plain and simple. Nothing wrong with that.
But I do have to take issue with their idea about a controller. After looking at the controller and some of the news reports as of late about these controllers flying into tvs all over the place, I have to wonder if the big N has a death wish? Give me a regular hand held controller anyday.
While I commend nintendo for wanting to inovate and give the gamers a more in depth gaming expeirence, if the trend of flying controllers continue, can it be long before someone decides to bring a lawsuit against Nintendo?
I guess time will tell.
