I just wanted to post a small note here.

I will be moving Fanboy to it’s own server, so that I can have a little growing space, but I will continue for a while to have posts here.

The game plan is to start to link posts from here to the new site. So starting tomorrow you will see links to the new home of Fanboy.

The new address is below;

So I hope to continue to have great conversations about comics, games and more to come… like Anime Figures and more!

Frank Castle: A Civil War Soldier

January 20, 2007 at 12:56 am | In comics | Leave a Comment

This is part two of the saga of the Punisher War Journal ” Civil War ” special series.

Frank Castle, the Punisher ( as if you didn’t know that ) and the symbol of America, Captain America working together?

Well in issue #2, it happens albeit for a very short period of time.

Cap is the leader of this little rebellion against authority, ironic in and of itself, and the question is can the Captain actually trust the Punisher?

Cap – ” I’m not sure I can have you Throwing In with me castle. “

Punisher – ” Why not? We’re both soldiers. “

Cap- ” I’m a soldier. You’re a Vigilante. A Criminal. “

Punisher – ” Yeah. But so are you these days. “

this was some of the dialog from page two of the comic, and sets the stage for the uniting of these two characters in book two, with the Punisher being Cap’s Bucky ( well sort of! ) as long as the Punisher doesn’t use ” Lethal Force “, yeah……good luck with that idea Cap!

Castle makes it clear that he ” really doesn’t care ” which side wins in this little Civil War, just that ” all this just gets in my way ” referring to his little war on crime vendetta, which kinda reminds me of a certain ” Dark Knight “, and makes you wonder when the Batman and the Punisher will cross paths again?

At one point, Cap even gives Frank a compliment by saying ” Good Work, soldier. Move out. “

But in the end, the Captain and the Punisher ( or is that Tennile ? ) work in and come from very different worlds, and kinda like that often referred to leopard and his spots…well the Punisher is the Punisher, with his own code of ethics and he doesn’t lie down with criminals, no matter what the circumstance might be.

After Castle guns down two criminals that had come to offer their help to Cap in his fight against the registration act, Caps ready to beat the snot out of the Punisher, and the Punisher is almost daring him to….more to come pilgrims!

World of Warcraft TCG: Playing the Onyxia Deck.

January 20, 2007 at 12:14 am | In ccg&tcg games | Leave a Comment

Hi there!

When I purchased the World of Warcraft ( I guess you would call these ) deluxe box sets ( I bought two of these for play test purposes ) I also picked up the ” Onyxia Raid Box ” set along with them.

I finally got the chance to play test the Onyxia deck against the two other decks that I bought.

The idea behind the Onyxia raid deck, is that it promotes multiplayer aspect. In other words, it’s one against at least two other players, but I think in order to take down Onyxia, it will take at least three well tuned decks.

Heroes play against Onyxia in three stages…

Stage One – Onyxia has 20 life points that you have to deal with, in order to move on to stage two. When I played Onyxia, my friend Chris, he took me out in the first round and was able to move on to the second round.

When he played Onyxia on the other hand, I was not able to take him out in the first round. As a matter of fact, he actually won in the first stage outlasting me.

Stage Two – Onyxia has 30 life points in this stage, and this was the stage that my fun began. I started to generate ” Dragon Welp ” tokens in this round, along with just destroying alot of his allies on the board.

I was going to win in this round anyway due to a card that I was holding till I had enough resources to pay for it ( 8 to be exact ), and the card is called ” Burninate ” which for 8 resources takes out everything on the board, heroes, allies, and equipment. If you are lucky and resourceful enough, than you get to face Onyxia for the final time…

Stage Three – Onyxia is at 50 points at this stage, and I say if you have made it to this stage, than you and your friends have played well and put together effective decks to play against the fierce Onyxia!

The Onyxia Raid deck set comes boxed in a slipcase, with the three versions of Onyxia, a regular deck and an event deck that is used as resources after you play them, and a ” Loot ” pack of special foil cards that are only available if you buy the” Onyxia Raid Deck ” box set.

It retails between $22.00 to $29.00

Gets your friends together and try to slay Onxia, I dare ya!

Civil War and The Punisher

January 10, 2007 at 1:54 am | In comics | Leave a Comment

What happens when one of the most feared characters in the Marvel universe takes a side in a battle?

The other side is in lots of trouble!

Welcome to The Punisher War Journal, Civil War Edition, featuring artwork by Ariel Olivetti, who makes me remember Mick Zeck’s art ( who’s art on the DC series Space Ghost had first caught my eye ) and story by Matt Fraction, this is the Punisher at his kick ass best!

So far I have read the first issue , but that was enough. The scene of the Punisher bringing a beat up and battered Spiderman to the Captain America’s resistance safe house ( maybe it’s safe ) and the startled looks on all the heroes faces was just priceless.

Castle decides that he wants to join the resistance against the ” Hero Registration ” act when he see’s Spiderman being apprehended by a group of villains ” sanctioned ” by the government and Shield. After doing some bad-guy ass kicking and saving Spidey’s bacon, he takes the webhead back to Cap’s place and decides he wants to be on Cap and the resistance’s side, but the real question is………DO THEY WANT HIM?

I know that there are alot of the Marvel universe comics tied into this important storyline, but for my sawbuck, this will be one of the best.

I will be picking up the second issue this week and I will be giving another update.

What I will be posting in a few days….

I really have to address a few new comics that I have read….

The new Lone Ranger series and the new Punisher Warjournal.

Warcraft the TCG- What’s different about it!

December 30, 2006 at 2:01 am | In ccg&tcg games | Leave a Comment

Okay, I went out and bought the game. Actually I went and bought the two starter sets that are specially packaged, along with the Onxyia Raid set.

The first thing that you have to realize is that all games owe a tip of the hat to the daddy of all of tcg games, Magic the Gathering from Wizards of the Coast. That being said….

Coming out of the Heroes of Azeroth special starter sets you get the following……

Either an alliance or a hoard set of cards, along with three over-sized cards, 2 booster packs, and all in a special hard plastic carrying case, which you can use to house your deck and extra cards.

First off, the first big difference between this game and Magic is the idea of using resources or mana. In magic you have cards that you can use to generate ” mana ” in order to play a card(s). The differences become clear right away ….while in magic, you can play a mana card right away, if you don’t have a card in your hand at the time that matches your ” mana source ” such as lets say a swamp card to play, you could be holding onto a card or two at least till you play a mana card that matches said card in your hand so that it can be played.

Not so in WOW. You can use any card in your hand right away as a resource, thus the only thing you have to wait on is having enough resources on the table to play the card in your hand. Have a two drop card that you want to play, you just have to play two resources and your good to go.

And game is a little quicker due to this.

Now the object in Magic is to get your opponent down to a zero life total. It is basically the same in WOW, the only twist is that your hero takes the damage not you, but the damage idea is just the same. Different heroes have different life totals.

Another difference in this game is that damage does not just go away, it stays in the game. So damage can be healed, and which can prolong your game, and your chances of winning.

Your hero also has a special ability that can be played once every game, and depending on what this ability is, can be a game winner for you.

The artwork rivals alot of the great art that I have come to expect on magic cards. And if you play the online game, I am sure you will want to collect your favorite online characters.

Upper Deck in support of WOW has a great website devoted to the game, a community forum, lots of articles about the game, and includes previews of new cards.

Upper Deck is also instituting a Beta Hobby League, starting in January, and WOW has been named new tcg game of the year from Inquest gaming magazine.

I will be staying on top of things happening in this game and I will be doing alot of playing also!
